The Ankh as the Symbol of Sirius and Key to Isis

 

To the Ancient Egyptians, the most sacred star in the night sky was Sirius.

This star was so important that the Egyptians orientated their calendar around the star’s appearance over the horizon every year around the month of July.

Apart from being the brightest star in the heavens, Sirius was important to the Egyptians for another reason. Its appearance heralded the onset of the country’s agricultural season.

 

The River Nile formed a line down the center of Ancient Egypt. Along its banks, fertile soil deposits had left an area of rich land for the production of most of the country’s crops.

The waters of the Nile was the lifeblood to the dry and arid areas of the rest of the desolate landscape.

The Egyptians noted how, at the time of the heliacal rising of the star Sirius, the snows of the mountainous regions began to melt, filling the streams and tributaries of the Nile with fresh water. The Nile swelled, breaking its banks. And brought new life to the land

 

                   The Ankh – Symbol of Life

                                 The Ancient Egyptians had a symbol for the word ‘life’. ‘Ankh’. 

                                 This simple glyph is composed two key  components: a loop connected to the top of a T-shaped cross.

                                 Throughout Egyptian history, the Ankh, specifically, the loop,

                                 Which many saw as being a fish-eye, held close  connections to water and its rejuvenating qualities.

                                 Some sources even suggest that the symbol was actually a device, known as a ‘Kilometer’,

                                  that was used to measure the level of the inundating flood waters.

Today, many of those who wear the Ankh as a piece of jewelery attest to the the benevolent qualities of the symbol in their lives. Others maintain that the symbol also acts as a powerful magical talisman, bringing success and good-fortune into an initiate’s life.

 

                                          The Key of Isis

                          The appearance of Sirius over the horizon was a massively important event in the lives of the 

                                          Ancient   Egyptians. The benevolent nature of its rising meant that the Ancient Egyptians came

                                         to accord it the same respect as they would have to a god or goddess. 

                                          This is why the star came to be related to the most highly venerated goddess of the land. Isis.

                                           Isis is still worshiped in many of the mystical traditions.

                                          From the worship of the Stella Maris to the Black Madonna and the Mysteries of the Virgin Mary, the Isis-Sirius current remains as active today as it ever was. 

 

Sirius and the Key to Life-  

Sirius is the doorway to the feminine mysteries. The star’s radiant beauty in the night sky reflects its esoteric nature as a primary portal to the Ray of Love and Personal Freedom.

The mystery of the Ankh symbolizes these primary aspects of the spiritual life of the initiate and so reveals its mysteries as St Peter’s symbolic ‘Key to Heaven’.
